Key Stage 1 SATS
These assessments take place over the month of May.
The children will be having PE each Thursday and Friday They will need to have a full PE kit of white t-shirt, black shorts and black PE pumps.
Please ensure that your child’s name is in their PE kit also.
Please ensure that all earrings are removed as they are not part of school uniform and can be a hazard.
First of all, welcome back! I hope that the summer holidays weren’t too stressful for you all! It’s been great having the children back after the summer holidays and they’ve settled in really well already. I thought that I would let you know about a few things that may be useful for you.
If you’ve got any questions or queries, don’t hesitate to come and ask me! Even if you just want to come and introduce yourself, please do!! I’m learning lots of faces quite quickly but please bare with me at home-time whilst I learn who is who!
Many thanks, Mrs Crawford
Homework is given out each Friday. It will need to be returned by the following Wednesday. This gives us time to change their book, mark homework and prepare the next set. It is important that your child completes their homework each week as it consolidates their learning from school and also gives them a chance to show off what it is that they can do!
The children will be given spellings to learn each Monday. They will be tested on them each Friday.
Your child’s reading book will be in their homework bag each Friday. Please ensure that you read with your child each week and sign their reading diary.
As you will be aware, Year 2 is still a SATS year. These will take place in May and June. The children will be assessed on their reading, writing, S.P.A.G. and maths skills. These results are important as they are used as a guideline for how the children are progressing. Further information will become available to you and I am hoping to hold a parents meeting in order to explain this process further to you during this half term.
We have our school trip this Friday. The weather looks like it is on our side but please make sure your children are dressed for it!
I can't believe the year is almost up. Thank you to all the children for all their hard work this year!
The children have now completed all their SATS assessments and I am really proud of them. We are really getting close to the end of term and the sun is starting to shine more often. It is important that the children bring in a water bottle so that they can stay hydrated. There is still lots to learn to get ready for Year 3 although it is approaching very quickly now!
April 2017 update
The holidays are now over and the last term of this year is upon us. In a few short weeks, Year 2 will be taking their SATS assessments. It is really important that they have no time off in May as I will be using this month to complete the assessments.
I hope the children have made the most of Mathletics over the holidays. I know I have a few more certificates to give out this week. Well done to those children.
See you all tomorrow!
Nearly at the Easter break. The children are all working their socks off.
Mathletics is now live. I have sent all their usernames and passwords home. Please ask if you lose it as the children will be set homework for maths on this site. There will also be practice SATS papers for your child to have a go at. Please try not to help them on Mathletics as I can then see which areas the children need more practice with at school. The homework activities have to be completed before using the other parts of the website. There will be rewards for those children who complete their homework and prizes given too. It is a brilliant website and I'm sure the children will love it.
Where is this year going?! It is flying by so quickly! Just a quick update. Halfway through the year now and Year 2 are working really hard at the moment; I am delighted with all their effort. We have had visits from Father Martin this half term to talk to us about the different books that we use in church. The children have been improving their balance and coordination in gymnastics and have begun to learn how to play hockey. Next half term, we have Coach Dave with us again to help us out with our hockey skills.
Parents evenings will be during the month of March, but watch this space for more information.
January 1st 2017!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
I am really looking forward to this year in Year 2! I hope all the children have a had a restful time at home with their families and are as eager to get back to school as I am! We start back on Wednesday looking at Africa in our creative topic, learning all about Nelson Mandela and his legacy.
See you all on Wednesday!
Here you will be able to keep up to date with all the projects and activities we are working on this term. Year 2 is an exciting class where the children are able to learn in a fun but sufficiently challenging way.
Look out for exciting class news too!
Update October 2016
Last half term was fantastic and all the children worked their socks off! I cannot believe how quick time has gone! I hope you have enjoyed your half term holiday and the children are feeling refreshed ready for more fun! We are now steaming ahead to Christmas! I am really enjoying my time in year 2 and am excited for things to come!
Please can book bags be back in school by Wednesday at the latest as this then gives us the opportunity to change books and listen to each child read. Thank you!

What a busy and exciting first term we have had! The children have settled really well in to year 2 and have produced some outstanding work as well as having lots of fun!
