Computing

At St John Vianney, our Computing curriculum is delivered through the Mr P ICT D.A.R.E.S. programme, which provides an innovative, project-based approach to learning.

Teachers incorporate the following stages into each learning sequence:
D – Design: Pupils begin by identifying the intended outcome of their project. They explore the features of the software and plan how they will achieve their final product.

A – Apply: Pupils apply their developing knowledge and skills to create digital content using the chosen application or software.

R – Refine: Pupils review and improve their work, making adjustments to enhance the quality and effectiveness of their project.

E – Evaluate: Pupils reflect on their completed work, evaluating how successfully they achieved their intended outcome and considering possible improvements.

S – Share: Pupils share and present their work with a wider audience, demonstrating and embedding key digital literacy skills.

A strong emphasis is placed upon online safety, both within and beyond the computing curriculum as an essential life skill. Pupils are taught how to navigate the online world responsibly, protect their personal information, recognise potential risks such as cyberbullying or scams, and know when to seek help from a trusted adult.
